SPORTS FACILITIES FOR TWO STOCKPORT SCHOOLS
Two Stockport secondary
schools, Reddish Vale Technology College and St James' Catholic
High, have received grants from the New Opportunities Fund
(NOF) for new sports facilities to benefit pupils and local
residents.
Reddish Vale received
a £264,000 NOF grant and with a further £80,000
from the school's budget, the funding will provide a synthetic
turf pitch at the Reddish school. St James' received a £157,346
NOF grant and with a further £80,000 from the school's
budget, the funding will provide a multi-use games area at
the school in Cheadle Hulme.
The new facilities
will be used for a variety of activities including full size
football and hockey matches, five-a-side football matches,
short tennis, and sports training. It will be fully compatible
for people with disabilities. Floodlighting will allow full
community use in the evenings.
The successful bids
were put together by Stockport Council's EducaSt James' also
received NOF funding of £25,000 which together with
£9,000 from the school's budget will enable the netball/tennis
courts to be improved.

Councillor Shan Alexander,
Executive Member for Education, said: “This is excellent news
for Reddish Vale Technology College and St James' Catholic
High School and their local communities. Sport helps to facilitate
learning in the overall curriculum, and the NOF grants will
not only enable the schools to boost their facilities for
pupils, but also enable local residents to use them.”

of Reddish Vale Technology College, said: “We are all very
excited about the opportunity to extend the facilities for
use by our pupils and the local community. It is a timely
development for our role in the community as an extended school.”
John Barnes, Deputy
Headteacher of St James' Catholic High, said: “This is a much
needed facility for the school. In drawing up the bid, we
liaised closely with local sports clubs, and the multi-use
games areas will benefit them, and our pupils in the curriculum.”
St James' also received
